汎用機一筋という生き方 A whole life with mainframe

コンピュータ業界に入って40年近く、汎用機一筋でやってきたというエンジニアの方と話をする機会があった。

なんだかんだいって現在のコンピュータサイエンスは、もしくは情報システム工学は汎用機が対象というのはまぎれもない事実で、学会は未だにダウンサイジングされている現場に追いつけていない。

ただ、今日彼と話をして、汎用機はまだその役目を終えていないのではないかという気がしてきた。

この辺りかなり難しい問題だね。

Tonight, I met an engineer whose career was totally built with mainframe almost 40 years.

More or less, computer science or information systems engineering has been targeted to mainframe computer in fact. Academic society could not catch up with downsizing.

But I realize that mainframe is not legacy.

This issue is too difficult to consider now.
